Mr. Rietema graduated from Calvin University in 2002 with a BA in Secondary Education. His 20+ year career in education has allowed him to teach every grade from Kindergarten to Freshman in college. He received his MA in Youth and Family Counseling from Denver Seminary in 2009 and recently finished his M.Ed. in School Leadership from Dordt University in 2026. Mr. Rietema has fulfilled his calling to education in schools located in Michigan, California, Georgia, Colorado and now in Iowa. He loves Christian Education and feels privileged to serve the staff, students, and families at Oskaloosa Christian.
Joel is married to Abigail and they have 5 children: Brandt, Cooper, Annika, Charlotte and Bennett. They also have a very loyal and sometimes rambunctious dog named Bella.
He enjoys reading, golfing, traveling, hunting and fishing. Most of all, Joel loves hanging out with his wife and kids: watching or playing sports with them, listening to country and worship music, and smoking meats for them all to enjoy!
Deep Hope: My Deep Hope is for students to become effective disciples of Christ by learning about God and God’s world through a Biblical lens.
