Discipleship

Building a Foundation of Faith

Discipleship is the heartbeat of Oskaloosa Christian School. It’s central to how we teach in the classroom, organize our schedule, resolve conflicts on the playground, and compete in athletics.

Our deep hope is that each student learns to see the world through the lens of Scripture, to lead with humility and courage, and to use their God-given gifts to bless the people around them. When they graduate, our students step forward ready to defend their faith, continue learning with curiosity, and live for God’s glory.

Biblical Worldview

Through our Teaching for Transformation (TfT) framework, God’s truth is woven into every subject. A math equation can highlight the order of God’s creation. A science experiment can reveal His power and design. A history lesson can point to His faithfulness across generations. From Kindergarten through 8th grade, every student studies the Bible in depth. Over the course of their years at Osky Christian, students read through the Bible twice, giving them a strong grasp of God’s story and how it shapes their own lives.

Chapel and Prayer

Twice a month, our school community gathers for chapel to sing, pray, and hear a message from God’s Word. Chapels vary from praise and worship services to themed events tied to our yearly spiritual focus. Once a quarter, student committees plan a school-wide chapel activity, which may include serving in the community, hosting events on campus, or worshiping together in creative ways. Prayer and devotion frame each school day. Teachers open with Scripture, songs, or devotionals and close the day in prayer. These daily rhythms help students see God as their first and last thought, cultivating habits of holiness and ongoing spiritual growth.

Discipleship Groups

Every Wednesday, students gather in cross-grade Discipleship Groups to pray, worship, and reflect together. Older students practice spiritual leadership, while younger ones are mentored in faith. These groups nurture friendship, community, and a family-like atmosphere in our school.

Yearly Theme

Each year, OC unites around a theme based on Scripture. Students and staff receive theme shirts, learn a theme song, and see the theme woven through chapel, the Fall Program, Discipleship Groups, and classroom devotions. The theme creates a shared focus and helps students reflect on one aspect of God’s character in a memorable way.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At Oskaloosa Christian, middle schoolers discover that education doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Through service, leadership opportunities, and creative exploration, students grow in confidence while building friendships that last a lifetime. Our unique Discipleship Groups bring students from different grades together for weekly devotions and Friday chapel. Middle schoolers mentor younger classmates—gaining leadership skills and forming meaningful connections across grades.
