Middle School

Understanding their unique role in God's story

Middle school is more than just a stepping stone to high school. It’s a formative season when students begin discovering who they are, what they believe, and how they hope to impact the world. During these years, academic demands increase, friendships evolve, and questions of faith grow deeper and more personal.

That’s why students need a place that challenges them intellectually while providing the support and guidance they need to thrive.

In our middle school, students do more than just survive these changes—they flourish. Through challenging academics rooted in biblical truth, close relationships with teachers and peers who genuinely care, and chances to lead and serve, our students develop confidence, character, and skills.

More importantly, they begin to understand their unique role in God's story.

Learning That Prepares Leaders

Middle school language arts goes beyond reading and writing to help students find their voice and communicate with clarity and conviction. Through literature analysis, creative writing, and speaking, students explore big ideas while developing the communication skills every leader needs.

Our math program meets students where they are and takes them where they need to go. Whether mastering basic concepts or diving into algebra, students develop problem-solving skills and logical reasoning abilities.

Hands-on experiments, technology, and health education give students a comprehensive understanding of God's creation. From chemistry reactions to computer programming to human anatomy, science class sparks curiosity and develops critical thinking skills.

World cultures, geography, and historical events come alive as students explore how God has worked through people and nations across time. They learn to think historically, understand different perspectives, and see their place in the continuing story of God's world.

Middle school Bible class tackles the real questions students are asking about faith, identity, and purpose. Through Scripture study, discussion, and application, students develop a personal relationship with God and understand how biblical truth applies to their daily lives.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At Oskaloosa Christian, middle schoolers discover that education doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Through service, leadership opportunities, and creative exploration, students grow in confidence while building friendships that last a lifetime.

Our unique Discipleship Groups bring students from different grades together for weekly devotions and Friday chapel. Middle schoolers mentor younger classmates—gaining leadership skills and forming meaningful connections across grades.

We create memorable experiences that mark the middle school journey:

  • 8th Grade Leadership Retreat – A day off campus filled with team-building and leadership growth.
  • 8th Grade Class Trip – An overnight service project and celebration before graduation.
  • 8th Grade Banquet – A special evening to reflect on growth since kindergarten.
  • Middle School Socials – After-school events that foster community and friendship.

Students bring learning to life by stepping into the spotlight:

  • Wax Museum – Live portrayals of historical figures researched and presented by students.
  • National History Day – Competitive research projects, with many advancing to state and national levels.
  • Science Fair – Original projects judged for creativity and inquiry.
  • Fine Arts Festival – A celebration of talents in vocal music, speech, drama, culinary arts, and instrumental music.

Faith in action is central to middle school life:

  • Community Service Projects – Outreach initiatives that reflect Christ’s love.
  • Operation Christmas Child – Sharing the Gospel through gift-filled shoeboxes worldwide.
  • Sports Programs – Volleyball, basketball, and opportunities to join area school teams.
  • Creative Electives – Final-quarter options like cooking, technology, interior design, and more.

What Our Middle Schoolers Say About Us

Osky Christian has played a crucial role in my life, not only teaching me essential subjects like math and science but also developing my reading and writing skills. Beyond academics, OC has greatly deepened my understanding of faith, guiding me to learn more about God and the teachings of the Bible.

- Lane Bruxvoort, OCS student

Osky Christian has helped me grow both academically and spiritually. I have learned what it means to be a good person, friend, and teammate, along with history, ELA, science, and math. Osky Christian has also taught me about God, what He has done for me, and how I can live for Him daily.

- Emily Hoksbergen, OCS student

My favorite memories at Oskaloosa Christian were playing volleyball with such a wonderful group of people and going to NHD competitions. Volleyball was amazing—we grew as a team and cheered each other on, even with things as simple as overhand serving or blocking a spike. NHD was also so fun, and even though it was a long day, it helped me develop skills I can use later in life.

- Leah Spronk, OCS student
